Motor Yacht Oceana with crew and guests on the foredeck, Southeast Alaska

95 Feet Built for Alaska

M/Y Oceana was built by Dittmar & Donaldson in 1975 as a classic expedition yacht. Five private staterooms below deck, a full salon and bar amidships, and open exterior decks from bow to stern — designed for extended cruising in remote waters.

95 feet is large enough to be genuinely comfortable for eight. Small enough to access anchorages no cruise ship ever reaches.

Where No Cruise Ship Goes

Every anchorage is chosen for wildlife access, scenery, and remoteness. Southeast Alaska the way it was meant to be experienced: from the water, on your own schedule.

Day 1
Juneau Departure
Board in Juneau and head south through Chatham Strait. Humpback and orca sightings common on the first transit.
Day 2
Freshwater Bay & Tenakee Springs
Brown bear viewing at Freshwater Bay. Walk the historic village of Tenakee Springs. Crab pots in near the old cannery.
Day 3
Basket Bay
Retrieve yesterday's crab pots. Spend the day kayaking through one of the most sheltered anchorages on the route.
Day 4
Baranof Island
Fishing, shore hikes, and kayaking along the Baranof Island coast. Wilderness access most visitors never reach.
Day 5
Red Bluff Bay
Tour a working salmon hatchery. Hike to thermally heated hot springs. Anchor at Red Bluff Bay beneath its waterfalls.
Day 6
Brothers Islands
Cross South Chatham Strait. Sea otters along Kuiu Island. Overnight anchor at the remote Brothers Islands.
Day 7
Dawes or Sawyer Glacier
Navigate the fjords to an active tidewater glacier. The scale doesn't translate to photos. This is what guests remember.
Day 8
Taku Harbor & Juneau
Final stop at Taku Harbor and its reclaimed cannery. Then back to Juneau. Catch packed and ready to travel.

Is $65,000 worth it?

For ten guests that's roughly $6,500 per person. Eight days all-inclusive: private vessel, professional chef, full crew, all activities, all meals. A comparable week at a luxury Alaska lodge runs similar rates without the privacy, the access, or the experience.

What if we've never chartered a yacht before?

Most guests haven't. The crew handles everything from day one. There's nothing you need to know or prepare. Michael and Matt walk you through what to expect before you leave the dock.

What if the weather turns?

Southeast Alaska weather is variable. That's not a secret. Michael has run these waters for over a decade. The route has flexibility built in. Anchorages shift, plans adapt. You're on a vessel built for these conditions with a captain who knows when to move and when to wait.
