Everything aboard is included: all meals, snacks, and beverages (beer, wine, spirits, non-alcoholic), fishing gear and tackle, Alaska sport fishing licenses, kayaks and paddleboards, tender transport, all fuel, moorage fees, and the full crew. No hidden bills at the end of the trip.
The only typical out-of-pocket cost is getting yourself to and from Juneau, Alaska, and any crew gratuity if your group chooses to leave one.
Up to 6 guests. The vessel is chartered exclusively to your group, no other guests, no shared common areas with strangers. If your group is smaller, the pricing structure is the same; you're still booking the whole boat.
Sport fishing for halibut, king and silver salmon, lingcod, and rockfish. Kayaking and paddleboarding, including glacier approaches and tidal cove exploration. Wildlife viewing: humpback and orca whales, brown and black bears, bald eagles, sea otters, and Sitka black-tailed deer. Hiking shoreline trails. Photography.
Every day is built around what guests want to do. There's no mandatory schedule.
No prior fishing experience is required. First Mate Dom handles all gear rigging, bait, and technique instruction. He's worked with complete beginners and serious anglers and adjusts his approach accordingly.
Southeast Alaska halibut fishing is typically productive. The fish are there. What you catch gets cleaned and prepared by Chef Ari for dinner that evening.
The Oceana season runs June through September. June and July offer the longest daylight hours, up to 18 hours of light per day, and the best king salmon fishing. August is peak for silver salmon, wildlife activity, and bear sightings as fish stack in streams. September is quieter, with fall colors starting and excellent fishing still running.
All season windows have distinct advantages. Let us know what matters most to your group and we'll help you pick the right window.
Yes, within reason. The published route is a proven framework that covers the best of what Southeast Alaska offers. But if your group is primarily focused on fishing, the captain will spend more time on productive grounds. If wildlife photography is the priority, the route adjusts accordingly.
What can't be customized is weather. Captain Michael monitors conditions closely and makes routing decisions that prioritize both safety and the quality of your experience.
The obvious difference is privacy: no strangers, no fixed schedule, no ports of call determined by someone else. But the more meaningful difference is access. Cruise ships require docks and deep-draft channels — their routes are constrained to a handful of coastal towns. Oceana anchors in coves without names, in bays no commercial vessel visits, at distances from other boats measured in miles.
A large cruise ship has thousands of guests sharing the same deck views. Oceana has six guests and a captain who adjusts the route based on where the wildlife is that morning. If a pod of orcas is working a channel south of the route, you follow it. That doesn't happen on a cruise ship.
The comparison comes down to what kind of Alaska you want to see: the version that's widely accessible, or the version most people never reach. See the route →
For the right family, yes. Because Motor Yacht Oceana is a private charter, the pace and activities can be shaped around your group, including families with children who are comfortable on the water and genuinely curious about wildlife, fishing, and the outdoors.
Suitability depends on your children's ages, their comfort level on a moving vessel, and what you want from the experience. We'd encourage families to reach out before booking so we can have an honest conversation about whether the timing, itinerary, and vessel environment are a good fit. There's no fixed age requirement, but this is a working expedition. Not a cruise ship.
Fill out the short inquiry form on the Check Availability page or email myoceana1975@gmail.com directly. We'll respond within 24 hours with available dates, any questions we have, and next steps if you'd like to proceed.
No deposit or commitment is required to inquire.
As early as possible. We run a limited number of charters per season, typically four to six. Prime dates in July and August tend to fill first. For 2026 season dates, many weeks are still available as of early 2026, but that changes quickly once planning season picks up in spring.
Charter rate is from $65,000 for up to 6 guests for the full 8-day expedition. This covers the entire vessel and all-inclusive costs as described above. The rate does not scale down for smaller groups. You're booking the boat, not a per-person berth.
For context, that works out to approximately $1,547 per person per night at 6 guests, comparable to high-end Alaska lodge pricing, but with the vessel, the mobility, and a crew-to-guest ratio most lodges can't match.
Cancellation terms are provided in full when you receive a booking agreement. We'll walk you through them clearly before any deposit is made. If you have specific questions about cancellation terms before inquiring, include them in your message and we'll address them directly.
Juneau is served by Alaska Airlines with direct and connecting flights from Seattle, Anchorage, and other Pacific Northwest hubs. There's no road into Juneau. It's accessible only by air or sea. Most guests fly in the day before departure to avoid any risk from flight delays.
Once you're in Juneau, we handle transport to and from the vessel.
Yes. Chef Ari handles dietary restrictions routinely: vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, allergies, strong dislikes. Communicate your group's needs when you inquire and they'll be confirmed before you board. There are no surprises at the table.
Weather in Southeast Alaska is variable. The essentials: waterproof rain gear (pants and jacket), rubber boots or deck boots, warm mid-layers, and sun protection for bluebird days. Casual clothing for evenings aboard. No formal attire needed.
We'll send a full packing list when you book. It's shorter than you'd expect. The vessel provides most equipment.
Yes. Some of the best charter groups we've had included guests who had no interest in fishing and spent their time kayaking, photographing wildlife, reading on the back deck, and eating. The vessel doesn't require everyone to share the same agenda.
The trip works for mixed groups, couples where one person is primarily there for the fishing and the other is there for the scenery. There's enough variety in the eight days for everyone to have a full trip.
Every charter begins with a safety orientation before departure. Captain Michael walks guests through the vessel: life jacket locations, emergency exits, communication equipment, and the key procedures to know for the waters ahead. It covers what to expect on the water and what to do in the unlikely event that something requires attention.
Motor Yacht Oceana is USCG licensed, regularly inspected to the applicable standards for passenger-carrying vessels, and fully insured. If you have specific questions about safety before booking, include them in your inquiry. We're happy to answer directly.
No question is too specific. No commitment required to reach out. We respond within 24 hours.
